We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded two Water Efficiency Cambridgeshire (weCB) Fund projects – weCARE and weSAVE.
Unfortunately, water resources in Cambridge are under increasing pressure. It is becoming increasingly important to reduce demand due to the growing population and climate change. Luckily, water efficiency doesn’t always require unattainable changes to see a difference, it can be achieved through small, manageable changes that can make a huge impact.
These projects mean we will be focusing on specific high water users and areas to reduce water usage. Targeting high water users means we will be able to produce measurable savings immediately after installation, as well as provide any other water-saving tips to produce further potential savings. We take a meter reading pre installation, as well as post installation, allowing us to have a measurable outcome.
weCARE
weCARE is a targeted water efficiency programme that will reduce water demand across residential care homes within the Cambridge Water Resource Zone.
The project will retrofit 1,000 care home rooms across approximately 25 to 30 care homes using CFTG’s patented Control Flow technology, alongside identifying and repairing minor leaks.
Designed specifically for high water-use environments, this passive retrofit delivers immediate and sustained water savings without affecting resident care or relying on behaviour change.
Based on evaluated metered consumption data, the project is expected to save approximately 15 million litres of water each year, equivalent to around 41,080 litres per day.
The programme will be delivered by an experienced local team already operating in Cambridge, providing robust, independently verifiable water savings while helping to protect local water resources. It will also demonstrate a scalable model that can be expanded across the care sector.
weSAVE
The weSAVE programme is a targeted water efficiency initiative that will reduce water demand across 500 small retail and high street businesses within the Cambridge Water Resource Zone.
Using CFTG’s patented MeterSave technology, flow control devices will be installed externally within existing meter chambers. This passive intervention delivers immediate and sustained water savings without affecting day-to-day business operations or relying on behaviour change.
Based on independently evaluated metered consumption data, the project is expected to save approximately 60,000 litres of water each day, equivalent to around 22 million litres per year.
The programme will be delivered by an experienced team in collaboration with water retailers, providing robust, independently verifiable water savings while demonstrating a scalable model that can be expanded across thousands of small businesses to strengthen long-term water resilience.
The Impact of Both Programmes
Although the programmes target different sectors, they share the same principles:
- Passive water-saving technology with no noticeable difference in water pressure for the customer.
- Independently verified savings
- Minimal disruption to residents, staff, or businesses
- Immediate and sustained water savings
- Scalable delivery models that can be rolled out more widely
- Helping to protect local water supplies and improve long-term resilience
Both weCARE and weSAVE together are expected to save around 37 million litres of water every year. This combined impact demonstrates how targeted, sector specific interventions can deliver significant environmental benefits while maintaining the quality of care and supporting business operations.
